Welcome to the Arteoin gallery.

What you will see in this gallery is a collection of work that includes pieces from the eighties and nineties, as well as some new work. The earlier work reflects an exploration of different styles including some set designs for theatrical work.

Later two themes have emerged, both based on photos taken in Scotland.

The first theme is the abstract interpretation of the original images inspired by manipulating the photos, for example by colour saturation or by creating a negative. Once translated onto canvas this creates a two dimensional graphic effect.

The second theme is a development of the idea of arranging groups of photographs to produce a finished composition. This idea was used to produce the piece you have seen on entry to this website.

Most recently I have used the idea of a group of photos to produce a panorama. The finished works are a result of seeing the picture from the viewpoint of the medium, in this case the camera. The canvasses show both the view captured by the camera and the physical photographs themselves.

I studied Art & Design at Telford collage, Edinburgh in the eighties and followed this by a course in Production & Technical Theatre in the nineties. I currently work from a studio in East Lothian.
